this attempt to try to find a “middle ground” by saying, in effect, “yes the elephant is there and it really does stink, but trying to get it out of the room will distract us from holding our breath until it decides to leave of its own accord”.
What is encouraging though is that most of the commenters actually do appear to see the elephant.
