{"id":1379,"date":"2011-07-06T22:26:04","date_gmt":"2011-07-07T05:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qpr.ca\/blogs\/?p=1379"},"modified":"2011-07-06T22:26:04","modified_gmt":"2011-07-07T05:26:04","slug":"the-uses-of-philosophy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qpr.ca\/blogs\/2011\/07\/06\/the-uses-of-philosophy\/","title":{"rendered":"The Uses of Philosophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bit of a coincidence today as John S Wilkins <a href=\"http:\/\/evolvingthoughts.net\/2011\/07\/why-do-philosophy-of-science\/\">returns<\/a> to the theme of scientists&#8217; disrespect for philosophy at the same time as Chris Hallquist announces that philosophy is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncrediblehallq.net\/2011\/07\/05\/philosophy-is-dysfunctional\/\">dysfunctional<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I suspect that the root of the problem is in the apparent claims of some philosophers to be finding &#8220;truth&#8221; &#8211; which is hard to credit when they consistently fail to find common ground on just about anything.<\/p>\n<p>The value of reading and doing philosophy to me is not in the &#8220;<a href='http:\/\/092.me'>answer<\/a>s&#8221; but in (some of) the <a href='http:\/\/092.me'>question<\/a>s and, to a lesser extent, some of \u00a0the arguments.
