Module 3 – Polynomial and Rational Functions
Module 3.3 – Dividing Polynomials
Section
Learning Objectives
When you have finished this section you should be able to:
- Use the ‘Long Division’ algorithm to express a ratio of
polynomials in
the form of a polynomial quotient plus a ratio in which the numerator
has lower degree than the denominator
- State the Remainder Theorem and use it to determine the
remainder on dividing a polynomial p(x) by x-a
- State the Factor Theorem and use it to check whether x-a is a
factor in p(x)
- Use the Factor Theorem to help you factor and graph polynomial
functions
- Use information from a graph or table to determine the formula
for a function of specified degree
- Make appropriate use of these techniques to solve applied problems
