Section 1.1 – The Real Number System
By the time you have completed this section you should be able to:
- Identify various kinds of real number (eg integer, rational, irrational)
- Explain why some numbers have to be “irrational”
- Locate given numbers graphically on a “Number Line”, and estimate the value of a number from its position on the Number Line
- Use absolute values to determine distance
- Correctly evaluate arithmetic expressions by applying operations in the appropriate order, including operations on signed and fractional numbers
