Module 2 – Functions
Learning Objectives
This module is where you will develop and confirm your understanding of
the mathematical notion of a function, and of the notation and language
used to describe functions.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Define the term “function” and identify whether or not a given
relationship is in fact a function.
- Define the domain, range, and graph of a function, and identify
them for specific examples
- Correctly interpret expressions written in terms of function
notation
- Determine the graphs of equations written in terms of simple
linear
operations and functions with known graphs and, and write equations for
graphs obtained by geometric transformation of a given function graph
- Understand and use the language and notation used to describe
algebraic combinations and composition of functions
- Identify when a given function has an inverse function, and
determine
formulas and graphs of inverse functions from those of the given
functions.
Each section
of the notes for this module
addresses some of
these in more detail.
