My own question requires one less word than that posed by former Bloomberg columnist and now Substack writer Noah Smith.
But his concern that writing for a Substack is less “conversational” than his previous role surprises me. There are certainly problems with the subscription model, but it does seem to provide ample opportunity for conversation by responding to comments, notes, and restacks. Perhaps though Smith is less interested in conversation with mere readers than with his fellow elite “pundits”.
