Extremists and Followers

The idea that certain kinds of political extremism and Milgram followerism are not universal but linked to a particularly “rigid” thinking style is interesting. And while the possibility that such rigidity is innate in a significant fraction of the population is scary, the alternative that greater flexibility can be learned is encouraging.

But it is unfortunate that the only reference provided in the article to techniques for increasing flexibility is focused on individuals who may want to achieve it for personal therapeutic reasons, while there is no suggested path towards increasing the amount of mental flexibility in the population at large.
